Defibrillator Smashed At Buxted FC In Vandalism Attack By The Editor
Two youths were caught on CCTV at Buxted FC on June 13th pulling a defibrillator from
its case at the club, stamping on it and smashing it repeatedly on the ground. The incident
took place following the distressing scenes of Danish footballer Christian Erikson receiving
treatment using a defibrillator the previous day after the player had a heart attack.
The club, based north of Uckfield in East Sussex passed the footage to Sussex Police who
began investigating the incident.
The club quickly used social media to make people aware of the break in and posted the
footage on its Twitter account appealing for information.
It read: “Last night at 12.50am, our defib was vandalised. It was caught on CCTV so if anyone
has any information about who these two people are then please report it to Sussex Police.”
The two miscreants, a boy and a girl, are seen on the video throwing the equipment to the
ground and stamping on it as the boy records their exploits on his mobile phone.
The footage has been viewed more than a million times since.
Sussex Police announced on its Twitter page soon after receiving the footage that it had
arrested a 17-year old on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
A Sussex Police spokesman said on
Monday: “We are investigating a report of
a defibrillator being damaged and stolen at
Buxted FC on 13 June.”
“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on
suspicion of causing criminal damage.”
“We’re aware of a video circulating online
and would ask the public not to post
speculative comments.” Buxted FC suffered a mindless act of vandalism
