Then There’s The Premier League........
At the top of the ‘Elite Sport’ pyramid stands the Pre-
mier League, with their multi million pound players
and telephone number sponsorship deals. In stark
contrast with the lower echelons of the ‘Elite Sport’
category they are managing without spectators.
I suppose to the armchair supporter it doesn’t real-
ly matter but I wonder what the true supporter, the
season ticket holder or the buyer of over priced tickets
thinks of the football that has been dished up so far this
season?
Personally, I feel there have been very few games that have lived up to expectations and
some that you would be glad that you didn’t pay to watch. Mainly the football has been poor
and that can be put down to a number of reasons. Lack of supporters certainly does not
help. Managers having to rotate their teams because of the number of games that are being
crammed into a week and the number of injuries sustained all help to disjoint a team. It is
easy to forget that these are top athletes playing at the highest level of their profession below
the International stage and they need time to recover in readiness for the next game. True,
they have the top medical people and equipment to help them but I can’t help feeling that
they are on somewhat of a production line this season, just banging out game after game to
get the season finished so there can be a winner at the end of it and a few of the top elite
clubs qualifying for the ‘holy grail’, the European competitions!
I suppose we lost sight of these as the last round games were in November and we were all
having to come to terms with another ‘lock down’ and the restrictions that came with it. One
of these restrictions was the closure of airports and not being able to go abroad.
