In this age of computers and new technology let us spare a thought for those elderly people that struggle
with it. Many are volunteers of sports clubs, not only football clubs, up and down the country that were
brought up with form filling, clip in binders and filo faxes. Basically all you needed was a decent pen and
access to a photocopier to keep a copy for your records. The Football Association now have a super duper
information gathering system called the Whole Game System in which every club in the land from the
Premiership (I’m assuming that is the case as we all know the Premiership are the Lord and Masters over
the FA and the Football League), right down to parks football. There is an opinion that this computerised
system isn’t there for the benefit of the volunteers that have to access it!
Now I know there are many very gifted ‘oldies’ who actually enjoy the challenge of mastering the comput-
er and are very good at it but I would suggest that the FA need to be very careful and not overload the
dedicated band of volunteers that keep clubs going as everything now seems to have to be done online.
I suppose we all have to accept the need to move into the 21st century to make things more streamlined
and ‘efficient’ but as valuable as the computer wizards are to clubs I would suggest that the ‘foot soldiers’
who don’t mind getting their hands dirty are as equally, if not more, important.
This is coming from someone who can’t remember his pin numbers or operate the T.V. remote control!!!
LOL (whatever that means)
Thank you for reading.
