Non-League pyramid, especially as we are now into the time of the year when the fixture list
is so often decimated by the handy work of the British weather.
These Christmas fixtures also provide a special time for fans, whether it involves being able to
return to where you grew up to watch your boyhood team or briefly escaping the monotony of
sharing small talk with distant relatives to enjoy some football on the terraces.
Nevertheless, it was interesting to note that a few clubs opted to alter their festive schedule
this year, with a number of Bostik league clubs opting to reduce their fixture congestion by
taking up the league’s offer not to play on Boxing Day. Ultimately, this decision is perfectly
understandable, even if it may have disappointed a few fans.
While we all adore the festive football schedule,
we must remember that it puts an immense strain on
both players and volunteers at clubs, who often have
to forgo the Christmas celebrations that we take for
granted in order to ensure that matches are fulfilled.
Whether you enjoyed the Christmas period on the
terraces or with your feet up on the sofa we hope that
      is was an enjoyable one!
Football’s Coming Home – By Jon Crouch
FOOTBALL’S Coming Home at last for supporters in the south-west after Truro City announced
this week they are to make a welcome return to Cornwall and play the remainder of their
home games back at their Treyew Road home. The White Tigers were forced out of their
home ground back in August with supermarket giant Lidl planning to build a store on the site.
But now those plans have been shelved, the National League South club have been given the
green light to return home and resume as the only senior football club in Cornwall. Truro had
been playing their home games at Torquay United’s Plainmoor ground, meaning a gruelling
180-mile round trip for Tigers supporters.
Naturally, that move badly hit fan attendance figures with the White Tigers averaging fewer
than 200 fans per game because of the two-hour trip to south Devon.
Their lowest recorded attendance was just 86 for their game against Hemel Hempstead Town
in October, while just 52 ‘home supporters’ made the trip on New Year’s Day against their
