Father Christmas Doesn’t Always Deliver
It seems that the inevitable has finally happened at Billericay Town and the club is now up for
sale. Glenn Tamplin, who appeared to be the clubs knight in shining armour is now stepping down.
Tamplin who took over in 2016 with promises of taking Billericay into the Football League bring-
ing in some top players. They started to climb the leagues and are currently near the top of the
National League South, but with a wage bill reported to be £22,000 a week and gates of barely
1000 it was only a matter of time before the bubble burst.
Spare a thought though for the volunteers that were there before Mr Tamplin came on board and,
no doubt, the volunteers that will be there to keep the club going after he has gone. They must
have seen the arrival of Mr Tamplin as a gift from heaven when the facilities at the ground and
the results all started to improve and their lives were made a little easier. You can understand
how easy it would be to accept the gift with open arms.
However there have been many clubs that have gone down the same path, Truro City, Rushden &
Diamonds and Grays are a few that spring to mind. Remember, Father Christmas doesn’t always
deliver the goods!
Happy New Year and thank you for reading.
