Welcome - Loyalty, It’s Priceless!

Loyalty in sports clubs, but particularly in football clubs, is a priceless commodity these
days. We will probably never see the likes of a Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger
putting in twenty years of service with one club again. Long have the days gone when a
player signs for his home town club and stays there until he hangs his boots up, although
that still happens in the lower echelons of ‘grass roots’ football.
Of course this doesn’t just apply to the high profile positions in a club. It is often re-
ported in the Non-League Paper of a loyal servant who has been dishing up the tea in the
refreshments hut for years, or tirelessly washing the kit so the team can look their best
on the pitch, purely for the love of being a part of that club.
Having said this, it is still one of the biggest problems that clubs face, that of finding
enough unpaid volunteers to help keep the club running. A key word here in this process
is enjoyment. Any volunteer must enjoy what they do and I can assure them that if they
find this in a club the rewards are indeed, priceless!
