The pavilion that had not
been used for about four
years since the demise of
the Deal Sunday Football
League is now being leased
by the club from Dover Dis-
trict Council who have been
hugely supportive, particu-
larly as the project has cost
them or the ratepayer
nothing as Cinque Ports have
funded it themselves.
The club who run teams in
the Kent County League, the
Canterbury & District League
and the Dover Sunday League
have plans to make full use
of their pavilion and make it
a hubthat the community can
be proud of. The building now
houses a defibrillator, which the club received funding for, which will be available for public
use when the pavilion is open during the week.
Steve and Bob both said, “To see football back at Marke Wood is truly priceless and now we
have a clubhouse facility that the community can to be proud of.
There was some more good news recently when Ollie Bowers, the Cinque Ports Mental
Health Advocate and son of Chairman Steve, announced that he had just published
his first book of his experiences and the reasons behind his setting up of the Walk The
Mind movement (see opposite page). The book has some superb photos of some of
the walks that he has been on. Walk The Mind now has over 30 thousand followers
from over 100 countries and encourages people to use walking to improve their mental
health. The book is well worth a read and can be obtained from Amazon at £12 each.

Cinque Ports held an open morning on October 24th and neighbours, local councilors
and other members of the public were invited to view the refurbished pavilion and hear
about the plans that the club have for the building. Tea and coffee were provided and the
morning was very successful. Pictured outside the pavilion are, left to right; Cllr Chris
Vinson, Cllr Derek Murphy, DDC Groundsman Peter, PCSO Adam Herod, Cinque Ports
Chairman Steve Bowers, Cinque Ports co-founder Bob Chivington.
