Welcome - Remember Old Friends
Firstly may I wish all our readers a very happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year
I found the celebration ceremonies of the end of World War 1 extremely moving. Listening to
some of the stories from friends and relatives and how they lost their loved ones is beyond
comprehension to many of us. So, particularly around this time of year perhaps we should
all give a thought to those no longer with us and remember the good times, as well as the
bad ones!
I watched with interest the documentary about Bobby Moore which I thought was very sad
and not one of the Football Associations greatest moments in footballing history. Bobby,
as most of you will know, was England’s captain when they lifted the Jules Rimet Trophy,
the World Cup, in that historic final at Wembley Stadium in 1966. He simply oozed class in
everything he did and was one of those players that seemed to do everything in slow motion.
When he retired from playing he struggled to gain employment in the game, with the F.A.
not exactly busting a gut to help. Bobby died at the age of 51. A bit gauling, to say the least,
especially when you hear of F.A. officials picking up £5 million bonusses as a sort of ‘loyalty’
payment on retirement?
Lets remember them all!
Thank you for reading.
