Henry’s Day
On Sunday August 16th the club lent their support to
a Charity football match, or should I say matches in
aid of the Muscular Dystrophy Charity. The event was
twelve hours of continuous matches played at Marke
Wood Recreation Ground and organised by Hayden Sharp, the club’s Head Coach, to support 6 year old
Henry Lanaway who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare form of the disease. Hayden got to know
of the youngsters plight when he taught him at St Mary’s school in Dover. He was
so taken aback by his enthusiasm despite his obvious problems, he just had to do
something to help.
The football started at 9am on Sunday morning and went through to 9pm in the
evening and some lads appeared in a lot of them, with some very tired legs at the
end!! Players from Cinque Ports FC and East Langdon Cricket Club as well as many
friends and local footballers took part and it was really a pleasing site to see Marke
Wood hosting lots of football again.
Henry arrived around 11 am with his dad, the rest of his family were in attendance
early doors and he gave the camera a big ‘thumbs up’.
The club provided food and a huge raffle and ‘Guess the Number of Sweeties in the
Jar’ all helped to raise £2038 for the charity. Thanks must go to Hayden and all the
