It’s All In The Planning

As the season comes to an end non-league clubs up and down the country will be looking forward to
playing at a higher level after promotion, playing at a lower level following relegation or just happy to
stay where they are, thankful that they have survived another season. Either way the committees and
volunteers will be busy planning for next season.
This often beggars the question, why do we do it? The NLP article about Harry Williams, (page 7),
who formed Northern Premier League outfit Ramsbottom United fifty three years ago goes some way
to explaining this. Clubs often have one or two individuals that are the backbone of it. The people that
are always there, putting the corner flags out, hanging the kit up, making the tea and kicking every
ball. Enjoying a victory as though it was like winning the World Cup and feeling the pain of every
      defeat.
So when we watch the big Premier League clubs strut their stuff on the TV remember that probably
just down the road somewhere in the country is a non-league club putting in as much effort and you
can guarantee that their volunteers are putting in even more!
